Green Week 2022

The Green Week 2022 was a great week filled with activities organised by TGD, Studium Generale, the Go Green Office and numerous other parties. With the intent to promote sustainability at the TU/e campus, events adhered to three themes of a sustainable future, a sustainable community, and sustainability throughout all aspects of life. We got to collaborate with #SustainableTU/e to share TU/e’s plans in assessing sustainability in their curricula and research, and are excited to see the sustainable future that we will realize at TU/e!

Promoting sustainability in multiple aspects of the TU/e!

The Green Week kicked off on May 30th with a lecture given by #SustainableTU/e in addition to Go Green Office (GGO) and TGD, where the first steps of #SustainableTU/e’s plans for making TU/e a beacon for sustainability were shared. These included an assessment of the TU/e’s current actions towards sustainability within its curriculum and research output, and updating the TU/e website to reflect sustainable activities at the TU/e. GGO and TGD shared their vision for the TU/e Green Week 2022 of promoting sustainability through the three core themes, and got to open the Green Week!

That same evening, Nuno Corado helped illuminate the natural activities at the TU/e campus and put us in touch with nature in the city of Eindhoven.
The following day (May 31st), an action-packed day started where the Green Research Exhibition and Sustainable Product Market were set up for a few days and a day, respectively. The Green Research Exhibition shared research projects from Master’s and PhD students that focused on sustainability, and the Sustainable Product Market collaborated with organisations from the FeelGood Market to highlight local, sustainable businesses that operate in and near Eindhoven.

While the bigger events were going on, Stricters was able to provide an interactive lecture where the ins and outs of trying to manage a sustainable clothing business were shared! Consequently, in the same room this lecture was held, a Clothing Swap got set up that ran for a few days.

In the evening, a vegan cooking workshop was organized in collaboration with the Vegan Student Association, where one could have a relaxing time with like-minded individuals and enjoy some good vegan cooking and drinks! Other food-related events included the Total Local initiative, where two students used a van to source ingredients from local, organic farmers and sell them in meal boxes to students at reduced prices.

The TU/e Green Week was nothing short of interactive events, with Studium Generale hosting a documentary evening about the ‘Prince of Muck’ documentary on June 1st. The life of Lawrence MacEwan was shared during the documentary, who had to deal with living on a remote island with his family during difficult conditions regarding the weather. Before and afterwards, attendants could hear interesting stories about the documentary from Cindy Jansen, the director of the documentary.
The following day (June 2nd), TenneT and Team Energy facilitated a case night where attendants could think of ideas for a sustainable energy grid to operate, and hear about TenneT’s work to facilitate the energy transition.

Finally, people could learn to repair their clothes during the clothing repair workshop on June 3rd! Thus, promoting the sustainable lifestyle regarding clothing of repairing instead of replacing faulty clothing.
